School Days
Our Week
March 21-25
Grant - CTC Unit 29
This week Grant...
...studied more of Jesus' ministry, including his miracles on and around the Sea of Galilee.
...loved making boats like those pictured above! And has 24 all ready to take to the park and sail with his friends. (He was kinda hoping they'd buy them for $0.25 a piece... :)...imagined climbing through our thick cedar trees in the pasture and bumping into a telephone pole, just like Robert Frost.
...is not sure that he EVER wants to visit Saudi Arabia as long as they have the weekly gathering at "Chop Chop Square", where Christians and other petty criminals are executed!
...was intrigued studying vaccinations, and loved the science experiment where he had to do some mixing of powders and figure out where the contamination came from.
Cup 2 was the guilty party...and he guessed right!
...continues to memorize Phillipians 2. Here he is copying his verse for the week in his common place book....finished writing his letter for WWTB. His cousin Ethan will be getting mail this week! (And he's really hoping to get a reply back. :)
...went out of town with me today so that he could participate in Regional 4-H Days with his project talk on Dairy Judging and play his violin solo. And, there happened to be a used homeschool curriculum sale in town where we stopped by. I thought maybe I'd find some good books worth picking up. (Not too hopeful that someone would be getting rid of RTR already. :) On our way in, Grant says, "Mom, don't EVER get me different curriculum! Heart of Dakota is the best. " No worries there. :)
Allison - Beyond Unit 2
This week Allison...
...learned about pioneers settling in Jamestown. We were so glad that Sally was able to find her little brother Richard. Here is Allison's map of Sally's search.
...had fun learning about animals in different parts of the world. Here are her giraffe, elephant, and hippo. :)
...learned about squirrels and their God-given ability to glide to the ground from trees. Here's our experiment with paper.
...studied Galatians 6:9. Here are her actions for "in due season we shall reap"..."if we do not give up".
...built up some arm muscles doing push-ups while studying our verses.
...examined solid shapes in math, and traced one of their flat surfaces.
...compared the size of similar shapes.
Garret - LHTH Unit 25
This week Garret...
...studied the parables of Jesus, starting with the story of the wise man who built his house on the rock and the foolish man who built his house on the sand. See what happens when the rain comes down and the sand floods?? (By the way, studying the wadis in Israel this year in CTC's geography has given me a whole new perspective on this parable!)
...learned about the Good Neighbor. Here Garret is headed down the path with his soccer ball acting out the story. Ignoring the hurt man...
...stopping to help......and giving him a ride to town on his soccer ball. :)
...added a red page to his color book. Red is for the red cross, that helps people. He's hoping to see a red cross van in town some day for a blood drive now. :)
...talked about the rich man who built BIGGER barns, but loved his money and did not love God. Here Garret is filling a barn and a bigger barn.
...wrote ALL of his letters, A-T, on a markerboard! I am amazed at his fine motor skill progress this year!
This week Asa...
...learned to play the kazoo! :) (Or bazooka as Garret would say...)
...is rockin' and rollin' on his hands and knees! (But he does a belly flop EVERY time I grab the camera. Little squirt!)

...had fun with the letter "T". Gluing pasta on it, tiptoe-ing on it and writing it in pudding were the favs.
...loved the "Touch your toes, Twist and turn" part of the action rhyme.
...learned about Jesus healing a blind man. Here he is using his sense of touch to figure out what's in the pillow case.
...learned about Jesus feeding the 5000. We have 5 pieces of bread, too, but no matter how many ways we divide them...we still just have 5. It was a miracle!!
...cut and pasted brown things on our color sheet. (Brown like bread.)...learned about Jesus walking on water, and had FUN acting it out! With real water, and his finger guy. :)
...learned about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead!
...finished Lesson 3 of The Reading Lesson.
...and, loved singing along with, "Jesus asked his disciples, 'Who do you say I am?' Peter said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!'"
Allison - Beyond Unit 1
This week, Allison...
...decided poetry was her favorite subject! :) She loved guessing the name of the poem and putting it together when I cut it apart.
...copied her poem BEAUTIFULLY!
...decided that maybe history was her favorite subject, too, and loved reading about Pedro and Catalina.
...had fun mapping the continents on our world.
...started her very own timeline.
...learned in science how ocean currents help move ships.
...learned in science how God created ocean animals, like whales, with blubber to keep them warm in COLD water.
...used math to find the missing number of Jelly Beans in the covered bowl.
...learned that a biography tells us the story of a character, and put together a bag of important objects to teach me about her. Her 5 were...1)Her Bible - because she loves the Lord. 2)Her copywork notebook - because she loves copying poetry now. 3)A book - because she loves to read. 4)A VBS picture frame - because she loves VBS. 5)Go Fish - because she loves to play games with her family.
...and, made a shield with symbols reminding her of Psalm 18 which tells us that we can trust the Lord, our rock & our fortress.

...multiplied and divided decimals in math.
...is reading Gentle Ben.
...learned about the importance of washing hands to prevent germs from spreading, and experimented with 2 different apples. One was cut and rubbed with dirty hands, the other was washed, cut and cleaned with rubbing alcohol.
